What is a car club?

Car clubs are a method of car sharing, allowing members to experience the benefits of car ownership without the hassle and expense. They are already popular in Europe and America and, with Streetcar, they're now taking off in the UK too.

Will Streetcar save me money?

Yes, as long as you are not a very heavy car user. If you commute to work every day in a car, then Streetcar probably isn't for you. But, if you only use your car a few times a week, then Streetcar might save you a lot of money.

Can Streetcar free me from company car tax?

Yes. Your use of Streetcar doesn't get taxed in the same way that a company car would. You will only be taxed on the amount you actually spend on driving a Streetcar.

Joining

Am I eligible to join Streetcar?

To join Streetcar you must be aged between 21 and 75 and have held a valid driving licence for at least 12 months, or aged between 19 and 21 and have held a valid driving licence for at least 24 months. You must also have had no more than 1 accident in which an insurance claim was made in the last 3 years. We will also ask you about any endorsements and convictions that you may have. What if I do not have a UK licence?

No problem, when you fill in your details on the registration form and submit them we will send you an email asking you to send us a copy of your driving licence, photo proof of identification and two proofs of address (utility bills etc). When we receive these details in we will give you a call to complete your registration with you.

How simple is the sign up process?

Very! As soon as you fill in your details on our registration form we receive them and will then call you back within 24 hours. This call will contain a quick conference call with the DVLA (for UK licence holders) to confirm your licence details, we will then run through the insurance options that we have available for you to take advantage of if you wish and then take payment details for our annual club membership fee of £59.50. All this can be done in a 5 minute call after which we will send you your smartcard out in the post and send you an email with your membership details. Once you have these you are all ready to go and free to use any one of our fleet of cars or vans.

What will you do with my details?

Do not worry, we will never pass on any of the details that you give to us to any 3rd party.

Booking

How do I make a booking?

Over the internet, using this site, or by phone on 0845 644 8475.

How long before my trip can I book?

A booking takes about 60 seconds to reach the car.

How far in advance of my trip can I make a booking?

As much as 6 months.

What if the first choice of car I want is usually booked?

We monitor bookings carefully to prevent this problem. If a particular car is in frequent demand, we'll add another in the same area as soon as the need becomes clear.

How and when do I cancel a booking?

You can cancel or change a booking up to 1 hour before the start of the booking, either online or over the phone. There is no charge for this. Less than 1 hour before the booking starts and during the booking, you will be charged for the full booking.

If I return the car early, do I pay the full amount?

Yes. You cannot shorten a booking once it has started.

Streetcards

Can anyone else use my Streetcard?

No. The card is in your name and should only be used by you (and the partner on your account if you have one). Anyone who is not a Streetcar member is not insured, and as a result may be open to prosecution by the police for driving without insurance.

What do I do if I lose my Streetcard?

Contact us immediately on 0845 644 8475 so we can cancel your old card and issue you with a new card. You will be charged £10 for this.

Billing

How will I be charged?

Payments are taken from a registered credit or debit card 24 hours after the end of your booking. Ad hoc charges such as Congestion Charges are paid in the same way.
